Parker’s Metal E-Seals (E-Rings) are designed for high-temperature applications where the sealing gap enlarges due to operating pressure and thermal influences. In aircraft, such operating conditions occur especially in turbines. Metal E-Seals in aerospace applications are used as casing seals in high-temperature areas between the casings of the compressor, combustion chamber and turbine. These sealing areas pose special challenges in terms of high temperatures, high pressure and flange separation of the mating hardware.
Parker’s portfolio includes Metal E-Seals for internal and external pressures and a wide range of available sealing cross sections for challenging applications. Metal E-Seals are made of nickel alloys for temperatures of up to 1450 °F and exhibit high elastic recovery. For applications involving greater relative motion of the flanges, Metal E-Seals can be plated with TriCom® or TriComHT™ for wear protection of the flanges and seal.
For applications involving the risk of damage during installation, the seals may be manufactured as pre-compressed versions that are retained in this condition by means of an adhesive. In the application, the adhesive dissolves and the seal opens. The adhesive turns into a fine powder.
