Parker recommends its Black EPDM for ethanol. For more aggressive fluids view our Material Selection chart. Reusable up to 30 times/ 1 year, NARs reduced by 95%, no retorque required, competitively priced, impact wrench approved.
Parker's Sure Torque manway gasket design will improve system performance, simplify assembly and lower your total system cost. Featuring an over-molded stainless steel compression limiter, The Sure Torque manway gasket comes in a number of specially engineered compounds – including Parker's EPDM which is generally recommended for the transport of ethanol. The highly efficient and rugged design of the Sure Torque manway gasket provides unparalleled value and safety. No other gasket performs as well, as long or provides the exponential system savings.
Parker's Sure Torque manway gasket has the following benefits:
• Eliminates 95% of the leading causes of Non-Accident Releases (NARs):
• Stainless-Steel Compression Control:
• Approved for impact wrenches
• No need to re-torque – resulting in less labor hours, less incidence of injury, and less time exposed to the elements
• No over-torqueing possible – preventing the potential of ruptured gaskets which results in less tank car maintenance repairs
• Impossible to drop into the tank car – no need to ''fish'' out gaskets
• Geometrically designed seal:
• Long life (tested up to 30 uses)
• Easy replacement/ no residue to scrape off/ no damage to nozzle
When transporting ethanol, Parker recommends its specially engineered EPDM EB263-60 as the elastomer material of choice. The non-polar nature of EPDM polymers provide good resistance to polar materials such as ethanol - as well as phosphate esters, ketones, and other alcohols. In addition to its chemical resistance, EPDM also has excellent resistance to oxygen and ozone attack that could occur during the transport of goods and has good low-temperature flexibility for optimal sealing - even on colder than average days.
When to select the FKM elastomers:
• When hydrocarbon oils might be present as EPDM has little to no hydrocarbon oil resistance
• If the tanker car has previously been used to transport products of a non-polar nature such as toluene, nitric acid, or chlorine
• When transporting ethanol, the 304 stainless steel is Parker's recommended insert of choice. The 304 stainless steel offers good corrosion resistance along with the needed mechanical properties to ensure bolt torque retention during transit when utilizing the bolt manufacturers bolt torque recommendations.
• When to select the 316 stainless steel:
• When additional corrosion resistance is needed.
