There are two reasons to bypass an oil filter; when it is clogged or it is missing. A filter bypass valve provides emergency oil flow to an engine and maintains crucial lubrication. Oil pressure is measured both upstream and downstream of the filter. An increase of the differential of those pressure readings triggers the bypass of the clogged filter. In the case of a missing filter, an internal path thru the valve with restrictors provides the differential pressure. The oil filter housing has a valve that is depressed when the filter is installed. Failure to install a filter into the housing will cause the valve to go into bypass mode when pressure is applied. This should occur infrequently, but in those situations, it is critical to maintain lubrication flow to the engine.APPLICATIONS: This technology is custom designed for use on lubrication systems on aircraft such as commercial, regional, military jets, and helicopters. Those aircraft operators (such as large commercial airlines) who schedule longer routine maintenance intervals, benefit from use of these filter bypass valves as they reduce the risk of damage to the oil system. FEATURES AND ATTRIBUTES: • Reduces risk of engine damage due to a foreign object debris (FOD) event or incomplete maintenance • Tested in accordance with DO-160, Environmental Conditions and Test Procedures for Airborne Equipment as required by customer. Includes salt fog, sand and dust, vibration, fluid susceptibility, contamination, and fireOPTIONAL FEATURES: • Can mount on oil line or directly on the filter housing, which is typically built into the pump housing• Electronic indication of filter bypass mode or pop-up indicator to prompt filter service
